Back in 2003 Bangladesh football men's team lifted the SAFF Championship trophy on their home ground, defeating superpower India and after a long time had passed but the fans did not get the opportunity to celebrate something big.
However, this time Bangladesh football women’s team gave their nation to celebrate again as they lifted the SAFF Championship title on Monday for the first time after thumping Nepal at their own backyard by 3-1.
The Tigress’ will return home on Wednesday and Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) is arranging an open-top bus for them.
Krishna Rani Sarkar, who found the net twice in the final, desired to observe the occasion on an open-top bus and BRTC does not disappoint her and is arranging an open-top bus for them.
"We started working as soon as the Ministry of Youth and Sports put forward the proposal. The bus will be fully ready by tonight [Tuesday]", said BRTC Chairman Md Tajul Islam.
"The women's football team has given a great gift to the country. The nation is grateful to them. We are proud to be a partner in their celebration," he added.
Before the final Sanjida Akhter sent an inspirational message to her nation where she mentioned, "We don't need a champions' parade on a bus. But we want to win this for those who have helped us break the social barriers and touch the green grass. This success of ours may help us to get some new Sabina, Krishna, and Maria. I want to make this road for the upcoming generation easier."
