Messi, Mbappe help PSG earn all 3 points

In the Ligue 1 clash between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Nice, PSG won the match and went to the top of the league table on Saturday.

Lionel Messi’s free-kick goal for PSG helped his side to take the lead in the 29th minute. Neymar ran over the ball to create a diversion before Messi stepped up and curled his left-footed set-piece into the top corner.

No more goal was scored in the first half, however, just after the break, Nice got the equaliser. Gaetan Laborde found the back of the net in the 47th minute.

Youcef Atal sent a cross into the penalty area from the right wing that bounces right in front of Issa Diop inside the six-yard box. The ball skipped past Nordi Mukiele and Sergio Ramos as well as it continued its trajectory to the far post, where Laborde met it and beat PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The match was heading to a 1-1 draw but Kylian Mbappe was there for the French champions to secure all three points as he scored the second and last goal of the game in the 83rd minute.

A poor kick-out from Kasper Schmeichel put Melvin Bard immediately under pressure, with the wing-back’s pass intercepted just outside the penalty area. Mukiele drove into the box and cut it back for Mbappe whose first-time finish defeated the goalkeeper and made the scoreline 2-1 for PSG.

The French giants will travel to play Benfica in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) on Wednesday ahead of a match against Reims in Ligue 1 next week.
