Croatia knocked Brazil out of the World Cup and made it to the semi-finals. The Europen side beat the five-time world champions in the penalties by 4-2 in the education City Stadium on Friday.
Brazil fans could not believe that their team is out of the world cup with just four minutes of extra time to go. They can't believe what has just happened to Brazil as they are kicked out of the tournament from a 1-0 lead.
And, this has happened in a few minutes.
Marquinhos will never forget the moment when he missed the 4th penalty shootout.
Both sides failed to find the back of the net in the 90 minutes. However, in the extra time, Neymar broke the deadlock in the 105+1 minute. It was his 77th international goal, the same as Brazil legend Pele. Neymar is just one goal shy to be the highest scorer for the Selecao.
The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star collected the ball on the edge of the box and played a one-two with Lucas Paqueta, who produced a sublime offload back to his team-mate. Neymar fended off a block and rounded Dominik Livakovic before smashing his effort into the back of the net.
Croatia did not take much time to find the equaliser as Bruno Petkovic made it 1-1 for the European side in the 116th minute.
His left-footed strike took a deflection and beat Alisson Becker. Mislav Orsic collected down the left flank and drove into the inside-left channel. He picked out Petkovic in the middle, who swept a left-footed strike towards the goal. It deflected off Marquinhos which took it away from Alisson and into the bottom-left corner.
Livakovic then performed his magic again to deny Rodrygo Silva from the penalty spot, while Zlatko Dalic's men were perfect piling the pressure on Marquinhos to score. The defender struck the post with a vital kick, sending Croatia through and Brazil home yet again at the quarter-final stage.
Meanwhile, Croatia made it to the World Cup semi-finals for the second tournament in a row. They will face either Argentina or Netherlands in the next stage.
