It was a clinical performance by India which helped them restrict Bangladesh to an ordinary total of 227 on Day 1 of the Dhaka Test at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on Thursday. Later, they collected 19 runs before the end of the opening day play.
Electing to bat first, the Bangladesh openers could not give them a strong start, but as a result of a fine knock by Mominul Haque on his Test comeback and a few handy contributions by other batters, the hosts managed to finish with a respectable total.
Litton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim played a few enterprising shots and tried to be aggressive, but they could not last long against the experienced Indian bowlers.
Jaydev Unadkat bowled well on his comeback claiming a couple of wickets, while Umesh Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin showed their experience as they bagged four wickets each.
From 213/5 - Bangladesh collapsed and were eventually bundled for 227. In reply, the Indian openers had to survive a handful of overs, which Shubman Gill and KL Rahul eventually did.
Rahul's stay was a nervy one where he survived a few close calls, but the Indian openers will look to be positive as they walk out to bat on Day 2.
