The United Arab Emirates is going to create artificial rainfalls using drones as part of its effort to make the climate friendlier.
To this end, the desert-country has already developed the technology of artificial rain using drones, reports BBC.
The BBC report said the specially designed drones will fly near the clouds to emit electric shock or heat so that the cloud melts and drops to land.
The UAE earlier used cloud seeding technology for artificial rainfall.
“Drones equipped with electric charge emitters and customized sensors will fly at relatively low altitudes (close to the clouds) and electric charges would scatter molecules in the air, causing rain and clouds to rise,” said Aleya Al-Majroi, director of the UAE's Rain Growth Science Research Program.
Scientists of the England-based University of Reading lead one of the projects under the program, whose goal is to control the balance of electric heat in the cloud droplets.
Meanwhile, the country is witnessing a gradual rise in annual rainfall, currently about 100 mm. The rainfall, however, is far away from favourable weather.
In 2017, the government of UAE spent 15 million dollars on a number of separate rainwater projects.
