A total of 58 tonnes of garlic has been imported for the first time through Mongla Sea Port on Sunday, a press release issued by Md Makruzzaman, Deputy Director Communication of the Mongla Port Authurity (MPA) said in Dhaka on Monday.

A Singapore flag carrying ship namely ‘MV MARKS DAVAO’ docked at the jetty yesterday. A total of 229 TUES container was unloaded at the jetty, reports BSS.

Of the container, two containers with 40 feet length were loaded with 58 tonnes of garlic, the press release added.

The commercial foreign ship left the ‘Quing Doo’ sea port of China on July 18 and docked at the MPA jetty on July 28, port officials said adding that the 58 tonnes of garlic to be unloaded after necessary examination by the Mongla Custom House.

A total of 57 foreign commercial ships have been left and arrived at the MPA jetty from July 1 to July 27 with 5.95 lakh tonnes of cargo, 1,474 TUES container and 1,349 cars.

The ships carrying with exported product like jute, jute goods, shrimp, white fish, readymade garments and cotton while the ships carrying with exported product including machineries, fertilizer, coal, stone, gas, gypsums, soyabin and pum oil, fly ash and cars, the press release added.
