BNP congratulates Joe Biden, Kamala Harris

Dhaka (Nov 8, 2020): BNP, a de-facto opposition political party in Bangladesh, today congratulated Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris as they have become the President and Vice President of the United States respectively.

Biden, 77, beat Donald Trump in a heated election held last week to become the 46th president of the United States.

His running mate Kamala Harris made history as the first Black woman to become vice president.

Biden positioned himself to be a leader who “seeks not to divide, but to unify” a nation gripped by a historic pandemic and a confluence of economic and social turmoil.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a greeting message said the people of Bangladesh, along with the people of the friendly United States are also happy with his historic victory.

He hoped, Biden would be able to reflect aspirations of the American people as well as the people across the world and at the same time would contribute a lot in ensuring the world peace and security and strengthening democracy and human rights as well.

Remembering the relation between America and Bangladesh during the tenures of BNP founder late president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia, Fakhrul said Biden would take the trend of the relationship forward in future.

In the greeting message, Fakhrul wished Biden and Mamala’s overall success, good health and long life.
