Lee Kun-hee, the man who built the empire of Samsung Electronics and turned into a global tech giant, passed away on Sunday at the age of 78.
A statement from Samsung said that he was surrounded by his family members, including his son and successor Lee Jae-yong at his side when he breathed his last.
While the statement did not specify the reason for his death, Lee was incapacitated for years after having a heart attack in 2014.
His son took over running the company since then. Lee was also treated for lung cancer in the late 1990s.
