BRICS foreign ministers call for peaceful resolution of Ukraine conflict

While calling for resolution of differences and disputes between Russia and Ukraine through dialogue and consultation, BRICS Foreign Ministers have backed all efforts conducive to the peaceful settlement of the situation in Ukraine.
BRICS Foreign Ministers in their meeting chaired by Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa Dr Naledi Pandor in New York on Thursday also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening and reforming the multilateral system, especially of the UN and its principal organs.
They rejected double standards in countering terrorism and extremism and called for an expeditious finalization and adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism, India News Network reports citing a statement from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs on Friday.
BRICS Foreign Ministers also exchanged views on major global and regional issues on the United Nations agenda in the political, security, economic, financial, and sustainable development spheres, as well as on intra-BRICS activities, said the Ministry.
BRICS Foreign Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening and reforming the multilateral system, especially of the UN and its principal organs, the MEA added.
According to the MEA statement, BRICS Foreign Ministers acknowledged the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference Decision on the TRIPS Agreement to provide flexibilities to cover the production and supply of COVID-19 diagnostics and therapeutics.
They called for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in a balanced and integrated manner, the Ministry added.
They stressed the importance of the fulfilment, delivery and urgency of developed countries' commitments to provide credible, adequate, predictable, timely, new and additional financing and technology transfer to developing countries to combat climate change.
BRICS Foreign Ministers extended their full support to South Africa for its BRICS Chairship in 2023 and the holding of the XV BRICS summit, said the MEA statement.
The meeting chaired by South Africa’s Foreign Minister Dr. Naledi Pandor, was attended by EAM S Jaishankar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil Ambassador Carlos Alberto Franco Franca, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
