Some countries have bigger militaries than others. Some are better in land capacity, while some are better in the air, or at sea. Some countries pay their soldiers poorly, while some have unlimited funds and resources. But which country has the world’s best armies?
China has the strongest military in the world, according to a study by the UK-based defence website Military Direct. The study was released on Sunday.
The study was carried out on 10 factors—budgets, number of inactive and active military personnel, total air, sea, land and nuke power, average salaries, weight of equipment. Each factor carries 10 points.
Out of total 100 points, China comes in the first place with a score of 82. Despite the United States being the by far largest military spender, it stands second with 74, followed by the Russian Federation (69), India (61) and France 58.
Who would win by air?
According to the study, in a purely air-led battle, and based on numbers alone, the US has the clear aerial advantage with a total airpower of 14,141. Russia comes into 2nd but its airpower is much lower - 4,682 - than the US. China stands third with 3,587 and India comes on fourth with 2,156 airpower.
Who would win by land?
It is Russia that has the world’s biggest total land power. The Russian Federation has 54,866 land units, putting the country just ahead of the United States with 50,326. China comes 3rd with 41,641. India stands sixth strongest country in land power.
Of the land units, Russia has 13,000 tanks, more than double of the USA’s 6,100. Also, Russia has more self-propelled artillery and rocket projectors than any other nations, according to the Military Direct.
Who would win by sea?
China has developed its naval power over the last few decades, and now has an impressively big fleet. China stands first with a total naval power of 406. Russia comes 2nd with 278, followed by the USA in joint 3rd with India with 202.
China has more submarines (79) than any other countries. The USA has 68 submarines and Russian Federation 64. China’s neighbour and rival India has only 17 submarines.
The Nuclear Option
In an all-out last-ditch nuclear attack, and based on numbers alone, it’s the Russian Federation that comes out on top with 6,375 available nuclear weapons. The US stands second with 5,800 nuclear weapons, followed by China 320, France 290 the UK 215 and India 150.
