Bangladesh and India on Sunday resumed the air-bubble flights after a gap of more than 4 months.
State-run operator Biman Bangladesh’s first flight left Dhaka for Kolkata and private US-Bangla Airlines resumed its operation with a flight to Chennai.
As per agreement, Biman Bangladesh will operate 2 flights a week on Dhaka-Kolkata route and 2 flights on Dhaka-New Delhi route.
Kamrul Islam, general manager, marketing support and public relations at US-Bangla, said they will operate 3 weekly flights on Dhaka-Chennai route and the first one left Dhaka for Chennai at 10-30 am today (Sunday).
Air India, Indigo and SpiceJet will also operate flights from Kolkata, New Delhi and Chennai to Dhaka.
According to the terms of the air bubble arrangement, Bangladeshis on tourist visas are not allowed to travel to India under this arrangement, while passengers from India to Bangladesh will have to complete a 14-day home quarantine irrespective of their vaccination status. They are also required to be Covid-19 negative to fly.
